Why I don't care about news

Many people get really caught up in the excitement of the markets.  People will make themselves sick worrying about the economy and trying to guess where the market will go tomorrow.  I know traders who trade with CNBC blaring in the background hoping to gain some kind of "edge" by listening to every news flash that pops up.  That kind of behavior will do nothing but drive you insane!

Quite frankly, I just don't care… Glancing at an economic calendar for 15 seconds before trading in the morning is the only news I pay attention to (during trading hours).  When trading, I just stay flat 5 minutes before and after big news.  I may glance to see where the markets end up at the end of the day, but I could care less if the markets closed up or down.

All I pay attention to is what pays me money-

My intra-day e-mini charts!

My charts give me all the information I need to successfully trade any market.  Rarely have I had instances where a news flash has instantly changed the market direction.  More times than not, the market will give you signs of weakness (or strength) before a big change in market direction.  But if something unexpected does happen, we have our technically placed (not monetarily placed) stop-losses in place for protection.

On the other hand, if you're constantly distracted by news, your technique will suffer.  Being distracted by anything (family, loud noises, news) is detrimental to trading.  You need to be 100% focused on what's happening at that moment and what the possibilities are in the future.

Lastly, trading without listening to peoples' biases all day will surely be a much more comfortable way to trade.  Who wants to listen to sales pitches and random opinions all day anyway?
