Trading From A Tiki Hut In Paradise…
As most of you guys know, I grew up as an Air Force brat. My dad flew H-60 Pavehawks, which meant he got stationed in some pretty cool places. When I was a a young kid, we lived in Korea, Iceland, Florida three times, and I think they nuked my birthplace (somewhere out in the New Mexican desert). Basically, I've experienced some pretty extreme weather in some not-so-common places.
Never living in one place for more than 2 years, and then staying here in Tampa for 10 years, I can feel my anxiousness beginning to boil. So, I've been drilling down a list of places I want to check out. After reading Tim Ferriss' "Four Hour Work Week", it's made me realize how precious time is, and how I can't afford to wait until I'm 65 to "see the world".
With my nice income from trading, and being single with no kids, it's really the best time for me to get out there and see the world. I'm thinking I want to spend 6-12 months in a few different places. Here's my short-list of places I'm considering:
1. Costa Rica- the health care and free commerce makes this a really appealing place for American expats. Also, the "Ticos" (Costa Rican's) are really friendly, and they have some of the best surfing in the world! It's still very inexpensive to live there too.
2. Ireland- I'm mostly Black-Irish… which means I'm Irish with brown eyes and hair. Ireland has some nice tax breaks and small business friendly corporate structures that would be ideal for a day trader.
3. Argentina- The capital, Buenos Aires, seems to have a rich culture with a lot to learn. They also seem to be open to American expats.
4. Australia- Probably the closest country to American culture south of the equator, Australia has many perks. For one, I have a few good buddies and trading friends that live from coast to coast. Also, it's another great country for surfing!
So far, I have a few concerns that have kept me from hopping on a plane to any of those countries. First and foremost, I need an internet connection. Anywhere I live must have a reliable, fast internet connection that can support day trading. And God knows I wouldn't leave my coaching students for a tiki hut and surfboard. ;-)
I've done quite a bit of research on each of my top 4 countries, and since I can't decide, I'm probably going to visit them all! I'm going to start with a quick trip to Costa Rica in November. My number one goal is to figure out if I can get a good enough internet connection. Actually, my number one goal is to grab a surfboard and have some fun… then we can talk about the internet!
If there are any day traders reading this from any of these countries, please contact me! I'd love to connect and learn anything I can about your home town. Until next time, Pura Vida!
